Major pipeline repair completed, east Trinidad sees relief
Relief should be coming to 75000 residents in East Trinidad in the form of water in their taps. Water and Sewerage Authority (WASA) says repairs to its ruptured 42-inch diameter transmission pipeline, located in the vicinity of the Santa Rosa Racetrack, were completed.
WASA had battled multiple challenges since beginning repairs last Thursday, leading to delays and leaving some residents from La Horquetta in the East to Five Rivers, Arouca, further West, without a water supply for almost a week.
Maloney residents, upset with the delays, even staged protests in the community on Monday night.
In a release, WASA said, "Minister of Public Utilities Marvin Gonzales, as well as the Board of Commissioners at the Authority, has extended congratulations to the WASA Team for their diligence in overcoming several challenges to complete the repair works within the shortest time possible."
WASA thanked customers for their patience and understanding during the period.
