Man accused of shooting two cops may be offered a plea bargain, Bahamas
Seven months after he allegedly shot two police officers in Abaco, Marty Sawyer’s attempted murder case could end with a plea deal.
He was also shot in the incident and hospitalized for almost a month before making his initial court appearance.
Sawyer was charged with two counts of attempted murder in connection with the shooting of Chief Superintendent Wendell Smith and Corporal 3688 Andrew Linden on November 24, 2020. The officers responded to a domestic call at Sawyer’s home in Little Orchard, Marsh Harbour, when the shooting occurred.
Sawyer, who is on bail, appeared before Senior Justice Bernard Turner on Friday for arraignment.
However, the arraignment was deferred until July 23, after his lawyer Alex Maillis said he was presently in plea discussions with the Director of Public Prosecutions.
