Man stabbed after alleged sexual assault on girl
A man suspected of sexually assaulting his girlfriend's 12-year-old daughter was stabbed on Tuesday at home in Southwest New Providence, police said.
The man, who was later arrested, was allegedly stabbed by his girlfriend.
Police said the girl was taken to the hospital for an examination.
Minister of National Security Wayne Munroe addressed the matter in the House of Assembly yesterday as he called for action that goes beyond initial outrage.
"… This week, a mother caused physical harm to the molester of her child, and the police reacted to it," he said.
"We need to be focused, and we need to have something a little more than outrage.
"As that mother physically defended her child, we must cease just being moved by outrage and, in fact, go past inertia to action."
The minister pledged to do more than talk.
"The public can expect that MARCO Alert will become active in a concise period of time," he said. "The public can expect that the sexual offender's registry shall become a reality."
The MARCO Alert System is expected to be similar to the US Amber Alert system, a voluntary partnership involving law enforcement agencies, broadcasters, transportation agencies and the wireless industry to activate an urgent bulletin in child abduction cases.
The Minnis administration signed a $1.9 million contract with Multimedia Technologies Limited for the implementation of the alert system earlier this year.
