Mass vaccination center opens in Tobago
The Tobago Regional Health Authority( TRHA) opened its first mass vaccination site at the Magdalena Grand Beach and Golf Resort, Lowlands, on Saturday morning, bringing the total number of vaccination sites on the island to four.
The mass vaccination centre accommodated only tourism and construction workers on its first day. The workers administered their first dose of the Sinopharm vaccine.
Although vaccinations continue on Monday at the Lowlands site, vaccination of tourism and construction workers continues on June 17 and 18, the TRHA said.
The other three vaccination sites in Tobago are at the Scarborough, Canaan, and Roxborough health centres. The centres continue to run their regular clinics while the vaccination drive takes place.
Appointments do all vaccinations in Tobago; walk-ins are not accommodated, the TRHA said.
The appointment-only system began on June 10.
Magdalena employee Zacques Morrison received the first shot. He described the process to register and the system to get the vaccine as “simple.”
He said he felt “fine” after the shot and “happy” to have taken it.
“I got up knowing today is D-day and realized I had to carry through with the decision to take it, so I did,” he told reporters.
