Michael Browne sworn in as Antigua’s Minister of the Creative Industry
Michael Browne received his instrument of appointment today to serve as Antigua and Barbuda’s Minister of the Creative Industries and Innovation.
Today, Governor Rodney Williams appointed Browne as a minister during a small ceremony at Government House.
He expressed confidence that Browne could carry out the demands of the job.
“You bring a tremendous amount of knowledge and experience to this job, which will guide you in directing this ministry. I followed you in your former portfolio, listened to many of your speeches, and have extensive knowledge of many things, including law. And I think these experiences and your education will serve you well in this portfolio,” the governor commented in his congratulatory address.
Williams noted it was important for small island developing states like Antigua and Barbuda to look inward to its brightest minds to help the country achieve greatness.
Browne, who is also the All Saints West Member of Parliament, thanked Prime Minister Gaston Browne and Williams for the confidence they have in him.
“COVID presents our people and our economy with very challenging times. And for these challenging times, it requires that we, both as leaders and as citizens, immerse ourselves in creative ideas to ensure that our economy, our government, and our people continue to move on. I accept this responsibility, and I accept this challenge, and I do affirm that I will do my very best to carry out the expectations of the office,” he stated.
Under his new portfolio, Browne will be responsible for culture, carnival, Independence Day, the One Nation Concert, V C Bird Day celebrations, visual arts, graphic arts, decorative arts, performing arts, musical arts, happiness and unity, innovation, and the United Nations Office for Project Services.
The newly sworn-in cabinet member served as Education Minister until he was dismissed in 2020 after being charged with a severe criminal offence.
Justice Colin Williams dismissed charges against Browne on December 13.
