New Caribbean Streaming Platform to be Launch in February 2021
There is a new streaming platform that is about to hit the Caribbean. Caribbean films and television shows will now be accessible to the world through a new Caribbean streaming platform called FILMCO2Go, an initiative between FILMCO and Tego.
The subscription-based platform goes live on February 21.
FILMCO is a non-profit organisation that was founded in January 2017. It is dedicated to creating a sustainable eco-system for film and television producers and television directors in Trinidad and Tobago and the Caribbean.
Mariel Brown, Executive Director of FILMCO described the initiative as a “big moment”. According to Brown, they realised early on to fulfil their mandate to help filmmakers and audio-visual producers, distribution would have to be a cornerstone of the film industry in the region.
She stated that "FILMCo2Go is allowing us to help fulfil our mandate of creating this eco-system, it is getting Caribbean content made by our Caribbean people out into the world and in front of audiences wherever you are in the world and hopefully, it is earning our content distributors much-needed revenue”.
Jason Mulrain, CEO of TEGO, started the platform in 2018 as a joint venture to deliver the FIFA world cup to mobile users around Trinidad and Tobago. Since then, it has restructured to become a Caribbean-centric platform online distribution platform called Tego TV, which is a free app. The platform has about 80,000 users.
The joint platform is expected to stream documentaries, short films and television series from around the region on Caribbean culture, dramas, comedies, and Carnival. Among the shows are audience favourites such as Westwood Park and The Reef.
According to Mariel Brown the content will stay on the platform for as long as their licences allow which is usually one year and content will be added every month to provide a constant rollover of new content.
You can download the app and purchase a subscription which gives you access to content.
As with other subscription-based platforms such as Netflix and Amazon Prime, FILMCO2Go is available for a monthly subscription fee, which will allow users around the world to watch as much content as they want, as many times as they want.
When the platform goes live, subscriptions will be available through filmco.org/filmco2go as follows:
- 7-day free trial + 12 months US $5.99/ month
- 7-day free trial + 3 months US $6.99/ month
- 7-day free trial + 1 month US @ $7.99/ month
Brown said new payment options will soon be implemented for those without credit cards.
