New hotel developments coming in the Caribbean
As the tourism industry continues to grow in the Caribbean, investments in new properties continue as well.
Throughout the region, new properties are on track and in various stages of development from groundbreakings to openings.
Here is a list of new and refurbished properties expected in the next year.
Jamaica
Approximately 8,000 rooms are slated for construction over the next two to five years. For the next five to 10 years, investment projects will see an additional 15,000 to 20,000 new rooms with investments valuing US $4 billion to US $5 billion.
Projected for completion in 2023:
- 260-room Sandals Dunn’s River, Ocho Rios - opening May 24
- First 1,000 rooms for 2,000-room Princess Hotel, Hanover
- 700-room RIU Hotel, Falmouth, Trelawny
- Groundbreakings: 2,000-room Hard Rock Hotel, St. James plus small hotels and villas.
Anguilla
- Ani Private Resorts: A new 150-suite resort on Shoal Bay - set to open in 2024
- Chateau Genesis: three bedroom oasis Chateau Genesis, part of the Genesis Collection has started construction at the cove Kokoon - to be completed at the end of 2023
Antigua
Over 500 Airbnb, Bed and Breakfasts, and villa units added to the portfolio, which has increased the destination's room count by 1,100. Other new properties expected are:
- Halcyon Resort to reopen as Royalton Chic in November 2023 with 260 rooms
- Jolly Beach will restore 200 rooms by December 2023
- Hawksbill Resort with 111 rooms will be welcoming guests as they reopen for business in November 2023.
- Curtain Bluff will be reinvesting $2.2 million into extensive property renovation time to be completed by the 62nd season reopening in October 2023. This will include a complete refurbishment of suites and junior suites and a newly expanded wellness area.
- Peace Love & Happiness Resort: 60 luxury homes with a total of 240 rooms in Barbuda by 2024.
- Moon Gate: Moon Gate Antigua is a 49-suite all-inclusive boutique hotel and spa coming to Half Moon Bay. Expected completion date December 2024 with 40 units ready to be occupied
- Nikki Beach: Luxury beach club founded by Jack Penrod is coming to Antigua.
- Robert De Niro's Hotel in Barbuda: Robert De Niro and James Packer investing $733 million in a new resort to be built on the abandoned K Club Resort site.
USVI
New Properties:

Opening Soon:
- The Westin Beach Resort & Spa at Frenchman's Reef
- Morningstar Buoy Haus Beach Resort, Autograph Collection
Barbados
- Wyndham Grand Resort: This is an iconic 421-room beachfront all-inclusive luxury lifestyle experience. Built on the historic grounds of the Sam Lord’s Castle Barbados, it is amongst the first distinctively eco-luxury and sustainably designed resorts in the Caribbean. This 132-room hotel is set to be completed and open in the fourth quarter of 2024. It will stand on the site of the old Caribbean Hotel.
- Pendry Hotels and Resorts: The hotel brand plans to develop Pendry Barbados and Pendry Residences Barbados, both slated to open in 2026. The new openings will mark the first international outposts for the brand
