Nine held in connection with couple’s kidnapping
The Trinidad and Tobago Police Service says nine people between the ages of 16 to 50 have been held in connection with the kidnapping of Narine Maraj, 61 and his wife, Dookie Mattie Maraj, 52, which occurred on Saturday 8th January 2022. According to police reports, the nine suspects are from the Northern and Eastern Divisions.

Police have held nine suspects in connection with the kidnapping for ransom of Narine Maraj, 61 and his wife, Dookie Mattie Maraj, 52, which occurred on Saturday 8th January 2022. The couple was taken from their home at gunpoint by five assailants around 5:50 pm on the said date, and a ransom demand was subsequently made for their release. The kidnappers also took the couple’s silver Ford Focus.
Investigators adopted a coordinated approach under the supervision of Acting Commissioner of Police Mc Donald Jacob. The extensive investigations included officers from the AntiKidnapping Unit, the Eastern Division Task Force, the Northern Division Task Force, the Special Operations Response TeamOperations and Intelligence, Canine Branch, the Trinidad and Tobago Defence Force, the Special Investigations Unit and the Air Support Unit.
Several operations were coordinated and conducted between the period Saturday 8th January 2022 and Tuesday 11th January 2022, in the Cuyamaca Forest and environs, which resulted in Narine Maraj and Dookie Maraj being secured on Sunday 9th January 2022 and Tuesday 11th January 2022, respectively. The couple’s vehicle was also recovered. The nine suspects, ages 16 to 50, are from the Northern and Eastern Divisions.
