Nineteen year old appears in court on double murder charges in Bermuda
On Monday, a 19-year-old youth appeared in the Magistrates’ Court charged with murdering two men last month at a popular Hamilton pub, becoming the second person to be accused of a crime that shocked Bermuda.
Sohn Akinstall, 19, was accused of killing Ayinde Eve, 27, and Micah Davis, 22, who was celebrating his birthday, at the Robin Hood Pub and Restaurant on October 26.
The pair died in a hail of bullets as many patrons were preparing to leave the pub after watching English football matches.
Akinstall was also accused of the attempted murder of Derrick Golding, an off-duty police sergeant, and Troy Eve Burgess during the same incident. He was further charged with four counts of the use of a firearm.
He was not required to enter a plea as the case must be heard in Supreme Court.
Magistrate Khamisi Tokunbo remanded Akinstall in custody. He will appear in the Supreme Court arraignments session on December 1.
Quianna Butterfield, 25, appeared in court last Wednesday, charged with identical murders and attempted murders. She was also remanded in custody and will appear at the December 1 arraignments.
Police have blamed gang infighting for the attack in which more than 20 rounds of ammunition were fired during the incident at the pub.
The deaths took Bermuda’s murder toll for the year to five.
