NY Jets’ Al Toon's Daughter was killed in a murder-suicide
The daughter of New York Jets great, Al Toon, was fatally shot in a murder-suicide perpetrated by husband Sunday, authorities said. Molly Lillard’s husband reportedly killed her before turning the firearm on himself at their Scottsdale home. A SWAT team responded to the shooting at around 10:45 p.m. to find Royce Lillard dead. Police said that the suicidal man had barricaded himself inside since 5 p.m.
The Lillards’ 8-month-old child was found inside the home unharmed. Authorities said that the infant is now being cared for by relatives. Molly Lillard was a volleyball player at her high school in Wisconsin and then at the University of Michigan.
Her father got drafted by the New York Jets after shining as a wide receiver at the University of Wisconsin. In eight years, he made it to the Pro Bowl three times.
Molly Llilard was found at the front of their home with gunshot wounds and was immediately transported to the hospital where she succumbed to her injuries. The husband, after shooting Molly returned to their home and barricaded himself inside. Officers attempted for hours to reach him but were unsuccessful. when the SWAT team was able to break in, they found him dead from what seemed to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Police are still investigating the incident.
