Only 393 volcano evacuees left in emergency shelters in St Vincent
The number of evacuees staying in emergency shelters due to the eruption of the La Soufriere volcano in St Vincent and the Grenadines has decreased again, along with the number of available shelters.
According to the latest update from NEMO, Prime Minister Dr Ralph Gonsalves says 19 shelters are open with 393 persons. Last week there were 24 shelters open with 514 persons.
Gonsalves says work continues on the Old Simpson House in Orange Hill to accommodate the elderly folk, particularly those who are not well and abandoned by their families in the shelters.
The Housing Repair Programme has started, and progress also continues on the 27 houses being constructed at Orange Hill.
The prime minister was speaking during his Face to Face program this morning.
