Over 220 cruise ships to visit Bermuda this season
Bermuda’s transport minister has said that the 2023 cruise season is living up to expectations.
Minister Wayne Furbert told members of parliament on Friday that the territory would welcome at least 223 cruise calls during the 2023 season.
“Our 80 per cent capacity projections estimate 559,000 cruise ship passengers, and revenue is estimated at $146.3 million in passenger and crew spending, $23.6 million in passenger tax, $10.2 million in transport infrastructure tax, $6.6 million in visitor fees, $12.4 million in cruise ship port expenses, for a Total Estimated Economic Impact of $200 million in 2023 which is an increase of 28 per cent over 2022’s estimate economic impact. And, if the weather is accommodating, fingers crossed, it could be more,” Furbert said.
He said Bermuda’s contract partners, Norwegian Cruise Line and Royal Caribbean Cruise Line, will bring 171 cruise calls this season.
The calls include 84 stops from Norwegian’s large ships and 21 from Royal Caribbean’s Celebrity brand.
The Seabourne Ovation from Seabourne Cruise Line will debut in Bermuda on April 12, 2023. The Silver Nova, the world’s first LNG fuel vessel, is set to make two calls to Bermuda on November 16 and 22, 2023.
Furbert added that the island is also attracting small luxury ships, with the Ritz Carlton Yacht Collection’s MS Evrima set to make its first call to Bermuda on April 17, 2023.
