Parks and squares in Port-of-Spain closed until May 23
All parks and squares in Port-of-Spain have been closed until May 23.
Port-of-Spain Mayor Joel Martinez had said the decision was taken to discourage people from loitering and congregating.
He added that the corporation was also increasing police patrols and presence in the Central Market to ensure smooth operations and that vendors and shoppers alike were COVID-19 protocol compliant.
The Brian Lara Promenade was cordoned off on Saturday as a result of people flouting the COVID-19 regulations.
In a release yesterday, the Port-of-Spain City Corporation said the Municipal Police would be on patrol to ensure that all protocols are strictly observed.
The release added that the management of the Central Market is also pleading with the public to ensure a safe environment by fully co-operating with the Ministry of Health’s guidelines.
“Members of the public are reminded to wear their masks, wash and sanitize hands, a social distance at least six feet apart and to stay at home,” the release said.
It said citizens are urged to work with the Police Service and the City Police to stop this deadly virus further.
“All protocols must be observed. Upon entering the market, patrons must utilize the handwashing station and social distance. It is also recommended that all shopping must be done in a safe and timely manner,” the release said.
