PM Browne to attend Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral
Prime Minister Gaston Browne will leave Antigua and Barbuda today for London to attend the state funeral of Queen Elizabeth II on September 19.
A note from yesterday’s cabinet meeting said while in London, the prime minister will take the opportunity to meet with Antigua and Barbuda’s new Head of State, King Charles III.
Antiguans and Barbudians will get a chance to mourn their former Queen, as her funeral will be a National Holiday.
The Uniform Services of Antigua and Barbuda will also hold a special worship service honouring Queen Elizabeth II at the Cathedral of St. John the Divine from 11 am. It will be followed by a military parade and a general salute through the streets of St. John’s.
The Deputy Governor General will take the Salute outside of Government House.
Following the Royal Funeral, Browne will jet off to New York to participate in the 77th United Nations General Assembly.
Browne is expected to deliver his National Statement at the UN General Assembly on Friday, 23 September 2022.
Accompanying him on the trip to New York will be Chet Greene, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Trade and Immigration.
While in New York, the prime minister and his entourage will meet with Antiguans and Barbudians living in the United States.
