PM Gonsalves calls for unity among Vincy Mas stakeholders
Prime Minister Dr Ralph Gonsalves wants all involved in Vincy Mas 2023 to “cut out the petty sniping” ahead of the festivities carded to take place from June 30 to July 11.
Gonsalves commented as he defended the Carnival Development Corporation’s (CDC) decision to send a team to Trinidad and Tobago’s Carnival last month to promote Vincy Mas.
Many people questioned why the CDC would have spent that money to market itself in Trinidad and Tobago when it owes performers and suppliers from Vincy Mas 2022.
Gonsalves said the CDC, Ricardo Adams chair, is mandated to promote the island’s largest cultural festival. They have a duty to ensure people are enticed to visit SVG and partake in the island’s culture.
He encouraged the CDC to “find new ways” to generate revenue, including packaging carnival events for pay-per-view consumption. He said the government would give support when requested.
Additionally, Gonsalves said Vincy Mas 2023 boosts the country's economic fortunes.
Gonsalves highlighted that much money is circulated when locals and tourists enjoy the festivities.
