PM Skerrit meets with newly elected Independent MP
Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit held his first meeting with members of the newly elected opposition.
Independent candidate Anthony Charles, who won the Marigot constituency on Tuesday, met with the prime minister today to discuss his plans for the area.
The Government Information Service reported that Skerrit assured Charles of the Government’s support and encouraged him to seek assistance to implement his development programme for the constituency.
Skerrit urged the newly-elected MP to utilise the EC$50,000 available for parliamentary representatives to attend to constituency matters.
Charles said he is willing to work with the Skerrit and the Government to advance the interests of Marigot.
“Prime Minister Skerrit has stated that he and his Government are willing to work with the opposition. It is a good step. Once he is willing to engage us, and based on the ideas and plans the government already has in place, once he works with us, we will work with him to get the Marigot Constituency moving,” Charles said.
An invitation has been extended to the elected representative for the Salisbury Constituency, Jesma Paul, to attend a meeting on Friday.
