Prisoner found dead in cell in Guyana

A Venezuelan national, who was an inmate at the Timehri Prison in Guyana, was found dead in his cell on Christmas Eve morning.
The deceased has been identified as Martinez Rajas, 24.
According to the Guyana Police Force, Rajas was unresponsive during a security check around 5:20 am.
A sheet was found wrapped around his neck.
A nurse on duty was immediately summoned, and she confirmed that the inmate was unresponsive.
After that, the police were summoned, and the body was escorted to the Diamond Diagnostic Centre, where the inmate was pronounced dead by a doctor on duty.
An investigation is currently being conducted by the police and prison authority.
Rajas were remanded to prison on April 28 for Possession of Stolen Articles.
