Several people injured during SVG Ragga and Power Soca Monarch
Police in St Vincent and the Grenadines (RSVGPF) has condemned the “irresponsible behaviour” of some patrons at Saturday’s Ragga Soca and Power Soca Monarch finals that resulted in others being injured.
In a statement, RSVGPF said several patrons at the Victoria Park grounds were injured when glass bottles and other projectiles, which were thrown into the air, fell and struck them.
Other patrons were injured when persons lit aerosol insecticide containers to show their support for particular performers.
“This is a dangerous practice and should stop immediately,” the police said.
RSVGPF reminded event organisers, operators of bars and patrons attending fetes during the Carnival season that a “No Bottle Policy” is still in effect.
This policy states, among other things:
a. A person shall not sell beverages in glass bottles or glass containers, whether open or sealed;
b. Consume any beverage in a glass bottle or glass container; or
c. Possess or carry a glass bottle or glass container in the area.
A person who fails to comply with the prohibition of no bottle policy commits an offence and is liable on summary conviction to a fine not exceeding $500.
The police have asked revellers to act responsibly as Vincy Mas enters in final days.
