Sint Maarten votes in its 2024 Parliamentary election
Voting will start today in Sint Maarten for its 2024 Parliamentary Election at 20 polling stations across the Dutch Caribbean Island.
The polls open at 8 am and close at 8 pm.
The total number of registered voters for the January 11, 2024, election is 22,553.
Police officers from the other Dutch Caribbean islands of KPA, KPCN and KPC (Aruba, Bonaire, and Curacao) have arrived on the island to assist with maintaining peace and security during the parliamentary elections.
Eight political parties have offered up 129 candidates for the 15 parliamentary seats.
The Members of Parliament shall be elected by proportional representation.
The political parties contesting are the National Alliance, United Sint Maarten Party, National Opportunity Wealth, Empire Culture Empowerment Association, United People Party, Party for Progress, Unified Resilient Sint Maarten Movement and Democratic Party.
In 2020, a coalition government was formed following the results of that election, with Silveria Jacobs at the helm as the Prime Minister.
The election results are expected to be in by midnight.
