SKN: Former Press Secretary Adelcia Connor-Ferlance graduates from UWI with First Class Honours
Saint Kitts and Nevis—Adelcia Connor-Ferlance, a name known across communications, public relations, and hospitality circles in St. Kitts and Nevis, has reached a milestone worth celebrating! At age 41, she graduated with First-Class Honors in Psychology from the University of the West Indies (UWI) in July 2024, achieving a long-held goal while balancing her roles as a mother, wife, and professional.
Adelcia’s journey to this moment wasn’t a traditional one. With a remarkable 25-year career already behind her, she previously progressed without a degree, driven by discipline, hard work, and a relentless pursuit of lifelong learning. Her career began in 1999 at the Clarence Fitzroy Bryant College (CFBC) and was launched through early experiences as a youth volunteer and cohost on the “Elements of Surprise” radio show. From there, her passion for communications flourished, and she went on to become a beloved broadcast journalist and radio personality at ZIZ Broadcasting Corporation, earning certifications in television and radio from UWI’s Caribbean School of Media and Communication (CARIMAC).
Reflecting on her career in a heartfelt social media post, Adelcia shared, “For years, I believed that experience can be just as valuable as a degree. I’ve progressed, earning accolades and awards, but in 2020, I embarked on a new journey to pursue a bachelor’s in Psychology—another passion of mine.” She also credited the Rt. Hon. Dr. Denzil Douglas, whose foundation provided her with the opportunity to pursue her degree.
In addition to her Psychology degree, Adelcia has taken courses in diplomacy and crisis communications, preparing for a shift into diplomacy as she continues evolving her career. Her message to others is one of hope and determination: “Never allow anyone to limit your potential. Our journeys may be different, but each is meaningful. Don’t be deterred by challenges or naysayers.”
Her impressive journey has served as inspiration for countless individuals across the Federation, showcasing that resilience, self-belief, and the pursuit of knowledge can break barriers at any stage of life.
