SKN: Seniors Bring Christmas Cheer to Government Headquarters
The Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) warmly welcomed members of the Seniors’ Day Programme from St. Peter’s, St. Paul’s, and Ponds Pasture on Tuesday morning, December 3, 2024. The group visited to share the spirit of Christmas, filling the air with joyful renditions of holiday classics such as Joy to the World, Gloria in Excelsis Deo, and We Wish You a Merry Christmas.
Prime Minister, the Honourable Dr. Terrance Drew, along with Head of the Civil Service, Thelma Richard, and other officials, enthusiastically engaged with the group of approximately 20 seniors. Prime Minister Drew expressed his delight at being included in their carolling tour and noted how meaningful their visit was. Many of the seniors shared that it was their first time visiting the Prime Minister’s Office and expressed their appreciation for the warm reception and support.
Debbie Benjamin, a Senior Home Care Officer from the Ministry of Youth Empowerment, Ageing, and Disabilities, highlighted the importance of these visits, explaining that the seniors aim to spread God’s message of joy and peace during the Christmas season.
“Maybe he [Dr. Drew] wasn’t expecting so many of us but when the others came around the corner singing he just blushed,” Ms. Benjamin said, recalling the moment when the prime minister met with the group. “It was amazing to see his face.”
Prime Minister Drew introduced the concept of the Seniors’ Day Programme after being inspired by a similar initiative he observed during his studies in Cuba. He expressed satisfaction with the programme’s growth, which now includes the Lodge, Tabernacle, and Sandy Point communities.
Dr. Drew shared his vision for the programme’s continued expansion, with plans to extend it to Cayon and other areas shortly. He affirmed the government’s commitment to supporting this important initiative, emphasizing that the Prime Minister’s Office will continue to provide funding.
On Tuesday, the seniors also brought Christmas cheer to Sagicor and St. Christopher and Nevis Social Security offices as part of their festive visits.
