St. John's manslaughter case postponed, accused has yet to get a lawyer
The court case of a 27-year-old man charged in connection to the death of a St. John’s woman in 2022 was postponed Thursday, after the court learned he doesn’t yet have a lawyer.
“It’s really important you jump on top of this, Mr. Oliver, given the nature of the charge,” Provincial Court Judge James Walsh told Tanner Oliver, who is charged with manslaughter.
Oliver, who is not in custody, is due back in court Aug. 4.
He was charged in March after a year-long police investigation into the death of a 55-year-old woman who was known to him.
On Jan. 2, 2022, Royal Newfoundland Constabulary officers were called to a disturbance at a home on Hunt’s Lane, where they discovered a woman seriously injured. She was taken to hospital but died from her injuries about six weeks later.
