St Kitts law fraternity mourns passing of attorney Sharina Laws
Condolences have been pouring in across St Kitts and Nevis following the passing of a young lawyer, Sharina Laws.
Her passing was announced on August 23.
The St Kitts and Nevis Bar Association said it is shocked and saddened by the untimely passing of their colleague and friend.
The Bar Association said Sharina Laws was a young, vibrant lawyer who was admitted to practice in 2015.
It described her as hardworking and remaining committed to her practice and her clients to the very end.
It stated: “Sharina had an indomitable spirit. She always had a bright smile and cheerful word for everyone she encountered. She was astute, courteous, respectful, and professional. She was well-loved and respected by her colleagues.
Sharina was also a proud, loving mother to her son of tender age. At the time of her passing, she was an Associate at Hamilton & Co.”
Meanwhile, Attorney General Garth Wilkin in an online post said his prayers go out to all grieving families who have recently departed, most particularly to the family, friends and colleagues of ‘our Learned Departed Friend Sharina Laws who will be dearly missed by our profession.’
Political Party, The People’s Action Movement ( PAM) in its condolences said Sharina was a former executive member of the PAM Central Basseterre Group and fierce supporter despite her petite frame.
“We extend condolences to her family, and express our gratitude for her contributions to PAM and Central Basseterre.”
Meanwhile, the founders of Women Empowering Girls (WEG) St Kitts and Nevis in its condolences said Sharina was a mentor for WEG at the Charles E. Mills Secondary School where she happily accepted the opportunity to pour into and empower young women who would be leaving school shortly and embarking on new journeys.
“We are saddened by her untimely passing and know that her professionalism, kindness and diligence will never be forgotten.”
Adding its voice to those in mourning, the St Kitts and Nevis Football Association (SKNFA) in its condolences said Sharina served as Chair of the SKNFA Disciplinary Committee and was a Member of the Caribbean Football Union Legal Committee. She was an ardent supporter of the Village Superstars FC.
It said Sharina’s passing is a huge loss to her profession and the areas she served in football.
According to her profile under Hamilton & Co, Sharina Laws is an Associate at Hamilton & Co. In 2013 she graduated with a Bachelors Degree in Law with Honours from the University of the West Indies – Cavehill. In 2015, she graduated from the Norman Manley Law School having obtained her Legal Education Certificate.
She was a qualified attorney having been called to bar of the Eastern Caribbean Supreme Court – St Kitts & Nevis circuits.
She is a former UNESCO Youth Ambassador to St Kitts and Nevis.
