St. Kitts Nevis Anguilla National Bank Hacked?
A press release was published on Thursday February 11, 2021 by the St. Kitts Nevis Anguilla National Bank Limited (SKNANB) informing its customers of an interruption to their systems. Patrons were informed that a decision was made to shut down Online Banking and Mobile Banking services as a precautionary measure, but nothing was said of a projected date when the services will be returned.
Another press released was published on Friday February 12 reinforcing what was said prior, this time describing the occurrence as “an interruption in service caused by an IT security incident.” The release did not state any details of clarification on the “IT security incident”.
However, the SKNANB highlighted that there was no theft of funds. Their systems were taken offline, so customers were unable to access their account information remotely. All customers were asked to visit the branches to complete any transaction and utilize the ATMs or the 1,300 Point of Sale machines throughout the Federation.
Credit card services were not affected as this service is sourced via a third party.
There have since been two additional press releases (February 18 and 18), informing the public of the recent updates on the matter. Customers are now able to utilize the Wire Transfer Services and the Debit Card Services. The bank continues to remain vague on the incident urging the public to be patient as they work diligently to resolve the issue.
The SKNANB stated that an urgent investigation was launched immediately upon discovery of the IT security breech. To date the SKNANB is still operating manually.
