St Kitts-Nevis: Candidates file nomination papers for Aug 5 election
Several streets in St Kitts and Nevis turned into a carnival atmosphere as candidates from the various political parties filed their nomination papers to contest the August 5 General Election.
Eight seats in St Kitts and three on Nevis are up for grabs.
The People’s Labour Party (PLP) has nominated Jacqueline Bryan (Constituency 1), Nubian Greaux (Constituency 2), Akilah Byron-Nisbett (Constituency 3), Kendale Liburd (Constituency 4), Stachio Williams (Constituency 5), Marc Williams (Constituency 6), Prime Minister Dr Timonty Harris (Constituency 7) and Andrew “Talbo” Bass (Constituency 8).
The People's Action Movement (PAM) has nominated Natasha Grey –Brookes (Constituency 1), Jonel Powell (Constituency 2), Kevin Freeman (Constituency 3), Lindsey Grant (Constituency 4), Political leader Shawn Richards (Constituency 5), Troy Flanders (Constituency 6), Lincoln David-Pelle (Constituency 7) and Chesley Hamilton (Constituency 8).
Powell, the former Education Minister in the disbanded Team Unity Coalition Government, expressed his joy at being up for nomination.
In a Facebook post, he said: “I will continue the mission YOU voted for. Now and always, I got your back.”
The St. Kitts-Nevis Labour Party (SKNLP) nominated Dr Geoffrey Hanley (Constituency 1), Marsha Henderson (Constituency 2), Konris Maynard (Constituency 3), Samal Duggins (Constituency 4), Kenneth Douglas (Constituency 5), Former prime minister Dr Denzil Douglas (Constituency 6), Leon Natta-Nelson (Constituency 7) and Political leader Dr Terrance Drew (Constituency 8).
Over on Nevis, The Concerned Citizens Movement (CCM) nominated Premier Mark Brantley (Constituency 9), Eric Evelyn (Constituency 10) and Alexis Jeffers (Constituency 11).
Following the nomination exercise, Brantley stated: “There is a lot of chatter around about polls, pollsters and pundits. The great CCM Party does not rely on polls. We rely on people. We keep in touch with our people. In Nevis, polls and pundits do not vote. People vote, and in the Nevisian people, I repose fullest trust and confidence.”
Nevis Reformation Party Dr Patricia Bartlette (Constituency 9), Mr Rohan Isles (Constituency 10) and Party Leader Dr Janice Daniel-Hodge (Constituency 11).
In a statement following the nomination, the NRP said its candidates “expressed confidence that the people of Nevis will give them the mandate to represent them in the National Assembly.”
