St Vincent man charged with indecent assault in the BVI
A man from St Vincent and the Grenadines was placed on remand in the British Virgin Islands for the charge of indecent assault.
The Royal Virgin Islands Police (RVIPF) says David Corridon, 43, a native of St Vincent, was charged with indecently assaulting a Long Bush female resident. She reported that a man entered her home and tried to force himself on her.
People in the area responded to her cries for help. Corridon appeared before the Magistrate’s Court and was placed on remand. Corridon was evaluated at the Dr D. Orlando Smith Hospital before the charge was laid.
The BVI recently reported a rise in the mentally ill incidents in the territory.
In a separate incident Glenford Smith Jr, a native of Tortola residing in Carrot Bay, was charged with the destruction of windows and windscreens of 19 vehicles in the parking lot of the Dr D. Orlando Smith Hospital.
Only 19 of the 26 vehicles seen with damage made police reports. Smith Jr was also evaluated at the Dr D. Orlando Smith Hospital before being charged.
He is to appear in court at the next available sitting.
The RVIPF notes the law prohibits charges to be brought against any person confirmed to be mentally ill. However, if the offender is mentally sound and aware of the offence, charges can be laid on that individual.
