Stevie Wonder, Brad Pitt spotted at star-studded One Love LA premiere
Kingsley Ben-Adir and Ziggy Marley braved the Los Angeles rain storm to premiere "Bob Marley: One Love" on Tuesday night in Los Angeles, US.
The heavy rain did not stop the cast, crew, and scores of celebs from celebrating not only the film's premiere but also what would have been Marley's 79th birthday.
Among those who celebrate the legendary Bob Marley at the premiere held at the Regency Village Theatre on February 6, 2024 in Westwood, Los Angeles, California, US, were US singer-songwriter Stevie Wonder, Oscar-winning actor Brad Pitt, who is also one of the executive producers of the film, Damson Idris and recording artistes Mya, Shenseea, Shaggy, and Kelly Rowland.
"Bob Marley: One Love", which is directed by Reinaldo Marcus Green ("King Richard"), takes a look into the reggae icon's rise to fame but puts a specific focus on his timeline from 1976 to 1978 when Marley returned to Jamaica after a two-year exile in London for the legendary "One Love" concert meant to ease political tensions on the island.
Marley said his father's activism centred around unity and loving one another.
"The greatest activism is love," he said. "If we can activate that, then we'll solve the problem in the world."
Ben-Adir, who portrays Marley in the film, said that he never wanted to mimic the reggae star during personal and performance scenes. He wanted to embody Marley's spirit.
"No one can play Bob," said Ben-Adir. "I was just trying to interpret him on a human level and trying to understand some of the struggles he went through and the journey that he went on to get to that message of peace and love and unity. You know, it cost him a lot. And he left us with these incredible gifts."
Marley's daughter Zuri said she cried when she saw Ben-Adir and Lashana Lynch's portrayal of her grandparents.
"I like had tears welling up in my eyes the whole time because even watching it with my grandma, like, you have to realise, these are real people and like, some people are reliving these experiences. So honestly, I got pretty emotional," she said.
"Bob Marley: One Love" premieres in theatres on February 14.
