Student in critical condition after allegedly stabbed in throat
student of the Central Leeward Secondary School (CLSS) remains in a “very critical” condition after being stabbed, allegedly by a student of another school on Thursday.
The stabbing is said to have occurred outside the CLSS, and the students, both females, are said to be athletes.
The Caribbean Media Corporation (CMC) has been reliably informed that the student was stabbed in the throat, but it is not clear what was used to inflict the injury with one source saying that the unidentified student was taken to the Milton Cato Memorial Hospital in the capital.
The student who is reported to have inflicted the wound is assisting police in their investigations.
The situation, the sources said, stems from one of the students accusing the other of bullying her for months and that the parents of both students had discussed the alleged bullying during a recent interaction.
The stabbing incident occurred about six weeks after students from four secondary schools across the country said they didn't feel safe at school.
The students, who included representatives of CLSS, identified physical hazards on their campus, other students bringing weapons to school, bullying, poor security, and, among other issues, the absence of safety drills.
The students shared their views as the Ministry of Education held a roundtable discussion to mark School Safety Week.
