Supermarkets urged not to sell alcohol to minors in Sint Maarten

Alcohol should not be sold to minors in Sint Maarten, and the police force is warning retailers it is a criminal offence.

The police force says over the past weeks; it has received various complaints from parents about supermarkets selling alcohol to underage children.

The Police Force of Sint Maarten says owners of these establishments are aware of the consequences of selling alcohol to minors, as this is also stipulated in their license.

It notes these venues have to consider that alcohol consumption by minors can be harmful to their health. Regular drinking of alcohol can lead to brain damage, disease, and alcohol dependence.

The Police Force adds that responsible retailing practices are key to preventing illegal alcohol sales.
