Tobago man assaulted stepdaughter and ordered to stay away
A 41-year-old Tobago man has been ordered to stay 150 feet away from his 17-year-old stepdaughter after appearing before a Scarborough magistrate charged with cruelty to a child.
A release from the Police Service said the suspect was charged on March 27 by PC Mitchell of the Tobago Division Child Protection Unit (CPU) following a report made to police by a girl that on March 24 that her stepfather allegedly physically assaulted her.
The accused was given the order as part of Magistrate Jo-Anne Connor's bail conditions when he appeared before the court on March 29 to answer the charge.
An investigation was initiated by PC Mitchell, who found that the girl appeared to have been dealt several blows about her body.
The CPU officers arrested the man and charged him with one count of cruelty to a child.
He was granted bail with a surety for $50,000.
The matter was adjourned to April 26.
According to the girl’s account, the accused slammed her to the ground, kicked and cuffed her in the stomach, choked and dragged her, causing injury to her neck, back, and left hand.
