Tropical Storm Fiona: Essential businesses allowed to open in Sint Maarten
While Sint Maarten remains under a Tropical Storm warning, essential businesses will be allowed to operate at their discretion from 2 pm today.
In an address to the nation, Prime Minister Silveria Jacobs said the essential businesses are supermarkets, bakeries, hardware, pharmacies, gas stations and restaurants. These businesses don't need to open.
And they can remain closed if they wish.
Regular business hours are expected to commence from 6 am tomorrow, September 18.
The Prime Minister announced that the Princess Juliana Airport will remain closed and reopen tomorrow. The port will also remain closed.
Even though TS Fiona is moving away from the islands, Tropical Storm conditions still exist and flash flooding can occur.
Silveria cautioned residents to stay indoors as much as possible.
