T&T: 40-year-old man charged with robbery
Forty-year-old Dion Peters was sentenced to three years hard labour for robbery with violence and three years hard work for assault with intent to rob. The following is a press release from the TTPS:
A San Juan man was sentenced to serve three years’ hard labour for the offence of robbery with violence and three years hard labour for the crime of assault with intent to rob, arising out of an incident on October 11th, 2021.
DION PETERS, 40, was charged with the offences when he appeared before Senior Magistrate Cheron Raphael in the Sangre Grande Magistrates’ Court on Monday, October 18th 2021. He pleaded guilty to the two crimes and was ordered to serve them concurrently.
One of the victims was at her Biche business place on October 11th, 2021, when two men entered, one armed with a gun and announced a hold-up. They proceeded to rob the victim of a quantity of cash and a cellular phone. During the robbery, a female patron entered the establishment.
She was also assaulted, tied up, and duct tape placed over her mouth. The business owner was also tied up and duct tape placed over her mouth before the men made their escape in a motor vehicle. A report of the incident was made to the police, and the car was found shortly after by officers of the Eastern Division at Biche Forest Road with a lone male occupant.
A search was launched for the second suspect and the firearm used in the robbery. However, this proved futile. The accused was charged by PC Baptiste of the Biche Police Station on Thursday, October 14th 2021.
