T&T: Man killed, pregnant woman shot in Port-of-Spain
A man was shot dead and two others injured, including a pregnant woman, during a shooting incident in Port-of-Spain yesterday afternoon.
The deceased has been identified as Brandon Critchton, also known as “Shasi Smooth.”
According to a police report, at 2.45 pm yesterday, a silver Tiida vehicle was in the vicinity of Queen and Nelson streets when the occupants began shooting at pedestrians along the roadway.
Three people were shot — a 30-year-old pregnant woman who was shot in the left shoulder; a 34-year-old man who was shot in the abdomen and Critchton, who subsequently succumbed to his wounds.
Police said the vehicle was recovered at Leau Place by officers.
Bystanders and residents in the area told Guardian Media that when the gunshots began, people were screaming and were seen scampering to safety.
A resident from Duncan Street said shootings are escalating in the area and believes gang-related.
“We need more police on foot and mobile patrols and also to check on people who are seen watching around while in parked vehicles at the side of the road, especially by the plannings,” one resident said who wished to remain unnamed for fear of the criminal elements.
A party of officers visited the scene, including Ag Insp Stewart of the Inter-Agency Task Force, Sgt Ramsumir and a party from the Homicide Bureau of Investigations.
