T&T: Murder accused man deported from Grenada
A 26-year-old man, who was deported from Grenada, is due to appear in a Port of Spain Magistrate Court charged with the murder of a 31-year-old man in June last year.
Police said that Dane Durrell Douglas was arrested on April 20 and later charged in Grenada by immigration officials and convicted for the offence of entering the state without the consent of an immigration officer.
Douglas was wanted here for the murder of Ricardo Ottley, which occurred on June 13, 2021. He was deported from Grenada on April 23 and placed into quarantine.
He was subsequently charged with murder and the additional offences of possession of a firearm to endanger life and living of ammunition to endanger life on May 11, following advice received by Director of Public Prosecutions, Roger Gaspard, SC.
According to police, on June 13, last year, police officers responding to a report of loud explosions in Petit Valley, west of here, found a body on the ground with a gunshot wound.
“Further enquiries revealed that Ottley was at his home in his apartment when a man, who lives at an apartment downstairs of the said address, allegedly went upstairs to the Ottley’s apartment, following which several loud explosions were heard. The suspect was then allegedly seen leaving the apartment allegedly holding a firearm in his hand.” the police said.
The statement thanked the Grenada government and police and the Grenada Customs and Immigration, and the officers attached to INTERPOL for their assistance in the matter.
