T&T: Nine held, firearms seized in anti-crime exercises
The Police Service reports that nine suspects were arrested, and two firearms and ammunition were recovered during early morning anti-crime exercises conducted nationwide today.
According to a statement from the TTPS, exercises were carried out in the Port of Spain and Central Policing Divisions.
Officers of the Inter-Agency Task Force In the Port of Spain Division were on an exercise around 12:55 am today when they intercepted one Nissan Wingroad with five male occupants.
A search of the vehicle resulted in the discovery and seizure of one Taurus pistol loaded with 13 rounds of ammunition.
The men from the Port of Spain and Western Divisions were arrested in connection with the find.
Still in the Port of Spain Division, officers, on an exercise around 3:30 am today, recovered a Toyota Corolla motor vehicle which was reported stolen. The vehicle was taken from its owner at gunpoint in the Central Division.
And, in the Central Division, the TTPS reports that around 10:10 pm on Tuesday (September 5), officers of the Emergency Response Patrol Unit, along with members of a Joint Police Army Patrol, were able to intercept a Nissan AD Wagon in which four Venezuelan nationals were travelling.
A search of the vehicle resulted in the discovery and seizure of a firearm, a quantity of cocaine and several tie straps. The four suspects were arrested in connection with the findings.
Investigations are ongoing.
