Two men die on a fishing trip in the Bahamas
According to police, what began as a typical fishing trip ended in tragedy for two men in New Providence who died from decompression sickness after diving on Saturday.
According to police, three men went out on the early morning trip.
Two of the men had been spearfishing near Rose Island. After catching some fish, they were on the way to another site when one of the divers collapsed.
The captain proceeded to render first aid as the second diver, who realized the other man might have been suffering from the bends, dove back into the water in an attempt to decompress.
However, police said the captain saw the second diver floating on the surface only moments later.
The captain attempted to render first aid to both men but was unsuccessful.
Police said they were alerted of the deaths just before 1 p.m. when the captain brought the victims to shore.
Police examined the men and found them to be unresponsive. Emergency medical services were called to the scene and pronounced the men dead.
