Two Venezuelan men arrested after cocaine bust in the Bahamas
Two Venezuelan men were arrested yesterday after a major cocaine seizure on Crooked Island, police said.
Assistant Superintendent of Police Audley Peters said police on the island heard a plane hovering late Wednesday night.
“The officers became suspicious and, as a result, the officers went to the airport,” he said.
“Upon arrival, they saw a plane parked on the runway and, as a result, they went to the plane and saw two males running from the plane and left the door open.
“They pursued those suspects and captured them and took them back to the plane. A search of this plane was conducted, and, as a result, the officers found 44 black bags containing suspected cocaine.
“Those men were arrested, and they are now assisting police with investigations into this matter.”
Peters said police do not know where the plane came from or how long it had been in The Bahamas.
He also said the estimated street value was unknown.
Peters said one of the men is 29 and the other was in his 60s.
