US Virgin Islands leader arrives in Taipei for six-day visit
US Virgin Islands Governor Albert Bryan Jr arrived in Taipei yesterday to explore opportunities for bilateral exchanges, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said.
It is the first visit to Taipei by the head of the US territory.
Bryan’s delegation includes Chief of Staff Karl Knight and US Virgin Islands Special Economic Envoy to Taiwan Anthony Weeks, the ministry said in a statement.
During their six-day stay, the delegation members are to visit several government bodies, including the foreign affairs ministry, the Ministry of Economic Affairs and the Taiwan External Trade Development Council, it said.
They are also to attend the Net Zero City Expo in Taipei and hold discussions with academics and business representatives to promote closer bilateral exchanges in business and tourism.
The US territory comprises four main islands — St Thomas, St John, St Croix and Water Island — and about 50 islets and cays in the Caribbean.
It is an unincorporated and organised US territory, with its governor elected by its people every four years as head of state.
