USVI: Convicted sex offender arrested on St Thomas
The Virgin Islands of Justice (VIDOJ) arrested convicted sex offender Omar J Suarez for failing to register on the island of St Thomas.
Suarez, 38, is a Tier 3 registered offender and is therefore required to update his residency information with local authorities every 90 days for the rest of his life. He was convicted in VI Superior Court in May 2003 for second-degree aggravated rape.
A team of Special Agents from the VIDOJ and Sexual Offender Registry (SORNA) unit arrested Suarez on Thursday afternoon at his home without incident.
Suarez faces a fine of not less than $3,000 or imprisonment for not less than three months if found guilty of failing to update his information.
Anyone, who helped him evade registration, also faces a fine and jail time.
