Venezuelan nationals nabbed on drug charges in Guyana
Three Venezuelan nationals are among four people assisting police in their investigations into the seizure of a quantity of cocaine at a location on the East Coast of Demerara.
A statement issued by the Customs Anti-Narcotics Unit (CANU) on Wednesday said that law enforcement officials were conducting an operation in the Cummings Lodge area when they intercepted three persons, two Venezuelans and a Guyanese, with a backpack in their possession.
CANU said a search of the backpack revealed three large brick-like parcels that were later found to be cocaine weighing 3.348 kilograms.
The statement said that 53-year-old Guyanese national, Gavin Adams, and Venezuelans Jose Gregorio Gomez, 35 and 22-year-old Kevin DeJesus were immediately detained.
CANU also reported that another Venezuelan, Ortiz Sergio Rafael, 35, was arrested with 5.6 kilograms of cocaine during a “follow-up” operation in the Grant Woodland, Lower Pomeroon River area.
It further stated that the “whitish powdery substance” in the five bricks tested positive for cocaine.
The packets of cocaine found at both locations were tightly wrapped, with two of the packets labelled “St Patrick’s Day” and the other “Lamborghini”.
The authorities did not give a street value for the drugs seized.
