Woman in Guyana is now 111 years old
Evadney Talbot is now believed to be the oldest living person in Guyana after she turned 111 years old.
The Ministry of Human Services and Social Security joined in on the celebrations of Talbot’s 111th birthday, unofficially making her the oldest living person in the country.
The Buxton resident, who is known to her community members as sister Vedney, was born in 1912 and attended the Buxton Congregational School before taking up training in garment construction.
Talbot mothered five children with her husband Kensel, who sadly passed away in 1985.
Meanwhile, Leader of the Opposition and the PNCR Aubrey C. Norton, MP, and Coretta McDonald, MP, also visited the home of Evadney Eldeca-Talbot in Buxton to celebrate her 111th birthday.
Norton and McDonald presented flowers and hampers to the centenarian and wished her many more birthdays.
Talbot was born on May 10, 1912. She attended the Buxton Congregational School, and after completing her primary education, she undertook training in sewing and dressmaking. She married Kensel Talbot, and they lived happily until his passing in 1985. The union produced five children, 2 of which are deceased.
Over the years, she worked alongside her husband in the farmlands at the back of the village, cultivating sugar cane and other crops.
Talbot, known to most villagers as Cousin Vadney and Sist, er Vadney, is a member of St Agustus Anglican Church, where she regularly worshipped until recently; due to changes in her physical capabilities, her ability to attend church has been restricted. However, she is blessed by the church giving her communion at home.
Until recently, she was an active member of the Golden Age Club.
Talbot enjoys spending time listening to gospel songs and music and having conversations with her children, grandchildren, great, grea-grandchildren, her caregivers, relatives and friends.
