Woman shot on Boxing Day, another stabbed for Christmas in Sint Maarten

Police are investigating two separate acts of violence against two women, which occurred on Christmas and Boxing Day.

In the latest incident, a woman was critically injured after being shot reportedly by her partner on Boxing Day. The incident occurred around 1:30 pm on Basseterre Road in Middle Region. She remains in hospital in critical condition.

The suspect fled the scene in a car after the shooting but was apprehended yesterday during a checkpoint at Harold Jack's lookout point after police received information about the suspect's whereabouts.

He was transported to the police station in Philipsburg, where he is held pending further investigation.

This incident which appears to be relational violence was one of several police answered during the busy holiday weekend.

On Christmas morning, a woman was stabbed on the Sucker Garden road near Cowboy's area.

It was revealed that the victim had been arguing for some time with her boyfriend who after a violent altercation had stabbed the woman with a knife.

It remains unclear who first drew the knife that used to injure the victim. The woman was given first aid by ambulance personnel and transported to the St Maarten Medical Center for further treatment. The injuries to the victim were not life-threatening.

Later that morning, the suspect appeared at the police station in Philipsburg. He was arrested and taken into custody. This investigation is ongoing.
