Woman wanted in the USVI arrested in Florida
Lissette Algarin-Felix’s run from law enforcement on the US Virgin Islands ended after her arrest in Florida.
Attorney General Denise George reported the 52-year-old was arrested by US Marshals Florida Regional Fugitive Task Force at her home in Davie, Florida.
Algarin-Felix has been eluding the law since her brother Ricardo Algarin was arrested in March.
Both siblings are accused of financial fraud and exploitation of an older man on St. Croix between 2018 & 2019.
Algarin-Felix and Algarin allegedly defrauded the older man of over US$70,000.
She is charged with obtaining money by false pretences, embezzlement, identity theft, forgery, counterfeiting, filing or recording forged instruments, conspiracy, grand theft, acting in an assumed character, intentional access, alteration, damage or destruction, and financial exploitation of an elder or dependent adult.
“Financial abuse and exploitation of the elderly are among the most egregious crimes because it involves taking advantage of some of the most vulnerable persons in our community”, said George.
Algarin-Felix is expected back in the US Virgin Islands since she waived her extradition hearing.
