29 illegal Haitian migrants arrested on a South Florida shore
More than two dozen Haitian migrants were stopped on a South Florida shore.
According to published reports, the U.S. Border Patrol arrested 29 migrants after a boat came ashore near Gulfstream Park, on the Delray and Boynton Beach line, Monday morning.
At around 5:00 a.m. a 45-foot sportfishing boat ran aground at Delray Beach, just off Gulf Stream Park, across from the St. Andrews Club.
Coast Guard "William Flores" was dispatched from Lake Worth Inlet station and an MH-65 Dolphin helicopter took off from Coast Guard station in Miami, but the boat ran aground on the coast before the start of research.
Officials said the migrants reached U.S. soil through a human smuggling ring.
The migrants in police custody were transferred to the US border patrol post in West Palm Beach, to be questioned and treated for their repatriation to Haiti.
Two Haitians including a pregnant woman were transported to the local hospital for treatment, said Peter Daniel, Spokesman and Division Chief a.i. for the Miami area, "US Border Patrol".
The boat involved in the migrant smuggling was seized. This new interception of migrants is under investigation by the border patrol and other agencies of the Department of Homeland Security.
The arrests mark the fourth time this year Haitian nationals have been detained after reaching Palm Beach County.
