After four years behind bars, youth freed of murdering schoolboy in Guyana
A 21-year-old man, who spent four years on remand awaiting trial for the murder of a 16-year-old schoolboy, has been set free by a High Court after it upheld a no-case submission filed on his behalf.
Justice Simone Morris-Ramlall upheld the no-case submission on Monday filed on behalf of Andy Peters.
Peters was on trial with his co-accused Shannon Cox, 24, for April 29, 2017, murder of 16-year-old Brian Yearwood, who was fatally stabbed during a school fair at Covent Garden, East Bank Demerara.
Cox’s attorney Madan Kissoon, also made a no-case submission, but the judge did not rule in his favour. He was called to lead his defence and but he maintained his innocence.
Justice Kissoon is expected to sum up the evidence against Cox on February 17, after which a jury will deliberate on the matter.
