Commuters of the Transport Board can expect to ride aboard ten new electric buses within six months.
Additionally, Government will be looking to establish an automatic fare collection system by January 2023 and transition to the Barbados Mass Transit Authority over the next five years.
This was revealed by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Transport, Works and Water Resources, Santia Bradshaw, during the Transport Board’s 67th-anniversary church service at the Collymore Rock Nazarene Church, Collymore Rock, St Michael, yesterday. It was held under the theme Chosen By A Magnificent God.
Parliamentary Secretary in the ministry Dr Romel Springer, Member of Parliament for St Lucy Peter Phillips, and chief executive officer of the Transport Board Fabian Wharton were among the officials in attendance.
Bradshaw said in keeping with Government’s National Green Economy Policy, during the period 2019-2020, the board of directors of the Transport Board decided to acquire 49 electric buses.
