Belize: Moses ‘Shyne’ Barrow is once again Leader of the Opposition
Eight months after being removed as Opposition leader in Belize, Moses Shyne Barrow is back.
Barrow, the United Democratic Party’s (UDP) representative for the Mesopotamia Area, was officially sworn in as Leader of the Opposition by Froyla Tzalam, Governor-General of Belize.
Barrow succeeds Patrick Faber.
This is the second time these two politicians have switched roles in months.
In June 2021, Barrow was first appointed as Opposition leader after three sitting Opposition parliamentarians wrote to the Governor-General requesting Faber’s removal and replacement.
The former Hip Hop star was then removed from the position in September 2021. Faber returned as Opposition leader after it was indicated Barrow no longer enjoyed the support of the UDP.
Fast forward to 2022, Faber, in the face of public pressure for an alleged domestic incident last month, announced his intention to resign as Opposition Leader in the House of Representatives and as the leader of the UDP effective January 31, 2022.
