Blue mountain coffee roasters; local coffee farmers, get support from country traders
Country Traders has been in the Coffee business since 1992 and our primary business over the last 27 years has been the roasting, distribution, and sale of Jamaica Blue Mountain coffee and other Jamaican coffee, in both the local and export markets under the ‘Coffee Roasters of Jamaica’ brand. In 2013, to improve the consistency of supply and quality of raw materials for our roasting business, we decided to begin purchasing coffee directly from small and medium-sized farmers.
CFJ made this move to improve the consistency of supply and quality of raw material for our roasting business,’ and, to ‘become exporters of Jamaica Blue Mountain green beans’, he says.
Today, Country Traders is a well-established buyer in the Jamaica Blue Mountains and has acquired a farm in the Silver Hill area, which is in the heart of the Blue Mountain range.
They continue to buy only the best quality gourmet coffee from small farmers throughout the Blue Mountains and export green beans to the international markets — such as Japan, Korea, Taiwan, and China.
Country Traders Limited is a small family-run business formed by Mark Fletcher in 1991.
In 2006, Fletcher has certified as a cupper (a person who engages in coffee cupping or coffee tasting) by what was known then as The Coffee Industry Board, the then regulatory agency of the coffee industry.
Today, he manages a team of twenty skilled workers.
He is one of the few original coffee roasters on the island licensed by Jamaica Agricultural Commodities Regulatory Authority — the government agency that meticulously maintains control over the quality of Jamaican Blue Mountain coffee.
In the past year, since the pandemic, the number of travelers that usually pass through the departure lounges has declined, many of which were returning Jamaicans who would bring the taste of home to the Diaspora.
In 2019, 4.3 million visitors would frequent the two major airports in Jamaica, Sangster International Airport and Norman Manley International Airport respectively, who would normally purchase CFJ coffee for their family have declined.
Country Traders has had to find an alternative solution to getting this coveted Jamaican Blue Mountain coffee to its frequent coffee connoisseurs in the United States and the rest of the world.
‘With a decline in our sales due to the pandemic, we’ve had to find ways to make it easier to bring Coffee Roasters of Jamaica to the coffee lovers all over the world, Fletcher asserted.
‘It is one of the steps we’re taking to expanding in the US markets’, this he believes will make CFJ into a household name.
Coffee Roasters of Jamaica’s authentic blend is suitably priced without compromising flavor. At a reasonable price of US$28 for a 16-ounce parcel, that robust taste coffee lovers know and love will not be lost on consumers.
This Fletcher and the CFJ achieved by ‘expanding our reach with Amazon store’.
