Dominican artiste jailed for six months in Grenada
A magistrate court Friday sentenced a 36-year-old Dominican artiste to six months in jail after he pleaded guilty to the charge of indecent assault to a minor in Grenada.
Defence attorney Jerry Edwin said that his client, Shane ‘Sukie Burn Brain’ Edwards, had pleaded guilty during the court session barred to reporters following the incident at a hotel last week.
Edwards, who was charged last Saturday, could not perform at the show where he was due to appear because he could not get bail. Media reports said that the minor had requested a photo with the entertainer when the incident occurred.
Edwin said he had pleaded for his client to receive a reduced sentence and that he had apologised to the Court, the minor and her parents for his improper behaviour.
According to Grenada’s Criminal Code, “indecent assault” is a summary offence with a maximum term of five years imprisonment.
