Former USVI Governor Schneider has died
The US Virgin Islands has been plunged into mourning following news that former Governor Roy Lester Schneider had died yesterday.
Schneider, 83, had been ailing for some time.
Schneider served as the territory’s fifth elected Governor from 1994 to 1999.
His death comes five months after the island’s sixth Governor, Charles Wesley Turnbull, died.
Incumbent Governor Albert Bryan has sent condolences to Schneider’s loved ones.
“I was saddened to learn another one of our Great Virgin Islanders has passed. His accomplishments will undoubtedly be celebrated for generations to come. As a scholar, doctor, and former Governor, he blazed a trail of success and a standard of excellence. He will be missed. My deepest condolences to his family,” Schneider stated.
“Yolanda and I express our deepest and most heartfelt condolences to his family and all in our Virgin Islands community who are mourning his passing."
